We are new to the whole home buying game, and our inspector, Kyle Jensen, gave us a complete play by play of what was potentially a problem, a definite problem, and what to do should the builder not opt to fix the smaller things. We left the inspect feeling 100% confident in our home purchase and he made it so incredibly easy to ask a billion questions!!! Really hope he's still in the inspection business when it's time for the kids to start home buying.Posted on Google

Verona has transformed from a small agricultural community into one of Dane County's most desirable suburbs, driven in large part by Epic Systems and the influx of professionals and families that followed. That growth means buyers in Verona are choosing from a wide mix of housing — newer developments like Cross Country Heights and Scenic Ridge, established mid-century neighborhoods closer to downtown, and rural edge properties with private wells and septic systems. Each comes with distinct inspection priorities.
The growth corridors around Verona have seen significant new construction over the past two decades. Like all new builds, these homes are not automatically defect-free. We regularly find issues in newer Verona properties including improper grading that channels water toward foundations, HVAC systems that weren't properly commissioned, missing attic ventilation baffles, and electrical rough-in errors. A thorough home inspection before closing ensures your builder addresses these items while they're still obligated to do so.
Homes in Verona's established neighborhoods closer to Main Street tend to be older and carry the common issues we see throughout Dane County's aging housing stock — original clay sewer laterals, aging electrical panels, cast iron plumbing, and foundation concerns from Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles. Many of these homes sit on clay-heavy soil that retains water and puts lateral pressure on basement walls. We inspect foundation walls carefully on every older Verona property and look for signs of past water intrusion that can be easy to miss without thermal imaging.
Verona's rural fringe and larger lot properties frequently have private wells and septic systems. These require specialized inspection beyond the standard home inspection. A failing septic system can cost $15,000 to $40,000 to replace. Our septic inspections evaluate the tank, distribution system, and drain field to confirm everything is functioning properly before you commit to the purchase. We also offer well inspections to verify water safety and mechanical integrity.
For homes connected to the municipal sewer system, we strongly recommend a sewer scope on any Verona home built before 1985. Clay tile laterals are common in the older parts of town and are prone to root intrusion from Verona's mature tree canopy. A sewer scope catches these issues before they become a $5,000 to $15,000 repair bill after closing.
Like all of Dane County, Verona sits in EPA Radon Zone 1 — the highest risk designation in the country. Radon is colorless, odorless, and the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. We recommend radon testing on every Verona inspection without exception, regardless of home age or construction type. Levels vary significantly even between neighboring homes, and the only way to know is to test.
Our team inspects homes in Verona regularly and knows the market well. HomeStart Inspections is proud to be a member of the Verona Chamber of Commerce, a member of Dane Buy Local, and a trusted affiliate member of RASCW. When your contingency window is tight, we have the team capacity to schedule quickly and deliver your complete report the same day — every time.
Our team finds problems that others overlook. We use special infrared cameras to spot hidden water leaks, overheating wires, and gaps in insulation—all for free. We include this thermal imaging with every inspection because you deserve to know exactly what is happening inside your walls.
We are your inspectors for a day and your partners for life. Whether it has been six months or six years since you moved in, you can call us anytime. We will answer your home care questions or give advice on your home's systems for free.

Older homes near downtown Verona frequently have original clay sewer laterals prone to root intrusion, aging electrical panels, cast iron plumbing, and foundation concerns related to clay-heavy soil. We use thermal imaging on every inspection to detect moisture intrusion that a standard visual inspection would miss.

Yes. New builds are not defect-free. We regularly find grading issues, HVAC commissioning errors, missing attic baffles, and electrical rough-in mistakes in newer Verona properties. A third-party inspection before closing ensures the builder fixes these items before you move in.
